Certified lead paint inspectors & abatement firms in New Jersey
New Jersey certifies lead evaluation contractors (inspections and risk assessments) and lead abatement contractors through DCA. The individual inspector/risk assessors are licensed by the NJ Department of Health and must work for a DCA-certified contractor. NJDOH doesn't publish them as a list, so we show the contact person DCA lists for each firm.
New Jersey lead paint rules in brief
- Municipalities must inspect, or have a certified lead evaluation contractor inspect, certain single-family, two-family and multiple rental dwellings for lead-based paint hazards every three years or at tenant turnover, unless there is a valid lead-safe certification. Owners and landlords may hire a certified lead evaluation contractor directly (NJ DCA).
- DCA certifies lead evaluation and abatement contractors. NJDOH licenses the individual inspector/risk assessors, who must work for a DCA-certified contractor (NJDOH).
- DCA asks you to confirm a contractor's certification at (609) 633-6224 before hiring.
